Look Incredible Deluxe Box

This is my first month trying this beauty box, this box is a high end beauty box costing £35 a month.

It costs the same as the cohorted beauty box and is highly rated. I’ve been very excited to try it out and try out the product selection.

Look Incredible Deluxe October 2016

  • Japonesque Makeup Setting Spray £29

I really like this setting spray, I’m not sure I’d select it over my Urban Decay setting spray but it’s a nice addition if you are looking for a new setting spray.

  • Mac Upward Lash Mascara £19

This really did lift my lashes, because the applicator is so small I decided to use it on my bottom lashes…don’t make that mistake it lifted them straight into my under-eye area causing mess! But on my top lashes this was great, I usually find my eyes get irritated after a little while with mascara but with this one I wore it all day without irritation.

  • Too Faced Perfect Lips Liner £15

I love too faced, this is the first lip liner of theirs I have had and I really love it. It applies great and easy to use. A fantastic addition to my makeup bag.

  • Aromatherapy Associates Support Breathe Roller Ball £17

I enjoy these sorts of products and I’m planning to buy the stress one, however the scent of this for me was too mild. I did use it when I had a cold last week and it did feel too mild. I love the idea of it and would be happy to get another to try.

  • Neutrogena Makeup Remover Towelettes £10

This for me was the only downside to this box, I felt it was a bit of a cop out for a high-end beauty box. I could easily go down to boots and pick some of these up myself, not really what I want to find in my beauty box. Although I did enjoy using them I still would have liked a lesser easy to access product instead.

Overall, I really enjoyed this month’s box, I hope the quality is this good every month. Apart from the makeup wipes I really didn’t dislike any product in this box.

Cohorted October 2016

This is actually my very last Cohorted box, I unsubscribed for a couple of reasons. I didn’t feel the customer service was very good, nor did I feel you got the quality you paid for. I also found that out of the 3 months I subscribed, 2 of those months the box was late.

This months box did make me feel like I was right to step away from them, I may re-subscribe if they up their standards of service and quality.

Cohorted October 2016

The Cohorted black box is £35 a month and is a “high end” beauty box.

  • Too Faced No Filter Selfie Powders

I love too faced as a brand, I do love this packaging too with the cute Chihuahua on it. I’ve yet to try it but you get three good sized pans of finishing powders to give you a different “filter” to your look. I was very happy to see this in the box as it was on my “to buy” list.

  • Dr Botanicals Neroli & Shea Butter Body Nourishing Cream 100ml

I will be doing a full product review into this but as a little summery I like the smell and texture of this and the packaging is lovely. This product is also vegan friendly which is always a plus!

  • Paul Yacommine Mico Finish No3 25ml

Premium shine with organic essential oils.

As said in another blog post I’m not into hair oil myself but I’m sure they are a nice addition.

  • Paul Yacommine Mico Finish No1 25ml

Premium shine with organic essential oils.

  • Paul Yacommine Micro Treatment Oil 25ml

Protects from sun, sea and chlorine

I felt this was a weird addition to an October box, as this would be best suited during the summer months.

This box to me assured me I was right to cancel, the quality just isn’t there. I really liked the addition of the too faced item and even the body cream. However the hair products to me felt as though they were filler products.

Glossy Box October 2016

This months glossy Box contained 5 items, 3 makeup items and 2 skin care items.

I’ve been subscribed to Glossy box for a year now and it really can be hit or miss as to getting good or bad products. They did give us a sneak look at one of the products that would be in this months box, it would be a PS product. I don’t think Glossy Box got the response it was looking for as many comments on this announcement were negative.

For those of you that are not aware PS is a brand name for primarks own brand makeup products. These products are very cheap products and a lot of people felt that easy to access products like primark makeup didn’t really deserve to be in a box that is aimed at beauty discovery.

Glossy Box October 2016

Glossy Box October 2016

This months box was the typical pink box and the contents are as follows.

  • PS pro Graphic eyeliner RRP £3 (Full Size)

This is primarks own brand eye liner, it is a very thick felt tip type liner. I did try it and found that it bled a lot more than I’d like from an eyeliner. It wasn’t something I’d purchase myself.

  • Trifle Cosmetics Lip Parfait RRP £12.95 (Full Size)

This is a “buttery lip cream”. The packaging is adorable however I didn’t feel it applied evenly I did go over it a couple of times and felt it still didn’t apply the way I’d like. The consistency was soft but I personally didn’t like how it applied.

  • Universal Beauty Cosmetics Secret Flush RRP £15 (Full Size)

This is a “cream blusher and lip stain duo”.

I’m not a massive cream blush fan, however I did like the colour and I would use it for lips more than cheeks as I don’t like the idea of layering creams on top of each other.

  • The Body Shop Drops of Youth Concentrate (Tiny, sample size)

This was a real let down to me, as this was a tiny sample size which you can get for free from the body shop. I haven’t had chance to try it yet but I did feel it was a little bit cheeky including this as a product rather than a nice little “gift”.

  • Bee Good Honey and Camelina Facial Exfoliator RRP £10.50 (Full Size)

This is described as hydrating and skin calming which is good for me as my skin has a mind of it’s own. I really like Bee Good’s products and was very excited to see this great product included. I’d strongly recommend anyone who likes good quality and UK made products to give it a try.

What is this?

Now, for the product I feel may have broken faith in glossy box.

Included in the box was a small bottle of shampoo, the label was changed to say “New Beauty Shampoo”. It didn’t mention brand, ingredients or anything really to identify the shampoo and what hair types it was safe to use on. This left a lot of people commenting on their social media stating they wouldn’t be using any product without the information given to them first.

The idea I guess was to showcase a product without any bias from those “testing” it. A lot of people felt they could tell the brand from the smell and this was later confirmed by Glossy Box, I can’t remember how long after the box was sent out but I believe it was at least a week before they announced the brand and it turned out to be “head and shoulders”.

A lot of people did complain about this as apparently head and shoulders doesn’t mix well with coloured hair.

Personally I didn’t try the shampoo as my hair is very thin and I do have to be careful what I use. I don’t think this was a good move on their part, I do understand what they were trying to do but ultimately I think it caused more problems than it did good.

I didn’t like the included bottle of mystery shampoo, nor the Primark liner. I really wish they would stick to good brands as I don’t understand how they can mix a tiny sample of drops of youth in the same box as a full size bottle of Bee Good. Overall it was a mixed month, some good products and some not so good. I really hope they have some good plans for the December box as last years was great.

Birch Box October 2016

What’s your sign?

It’s that time of year, the trees are turning a nice crisp orange and you’re getting ready to carve pumpkins with the family. It’s starting to get cold at night and you’re waiting for the first frost of the year.

October is a month I get very excited for, it’s a month of many birthdays and celebrations in my family and I was really hoping Birch box would give us some nice fall treats. Unfortunately this wasn’t a “great” box in my opinion.

Let me start by saying the actual box, amazing! This month was a star sign box, you got chance to select your birthday on your profile (if you hadn’t already) and they would send the box matching your star sign.

The outside design was as follows:

Earth (Taurus, Virgo and Capricorn)

Air (Gemini, Libra and Aquarius)

Fire (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius)

Water (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces)

Now I really feel the outside of the box design is amazing, they’ve stepped up the game. The box is a drawer, which also glows in the dark. Very impressive…

However the contents of the box didn’t match the exciting exterior, which was very disappointing.

Lets get onto the contents of the box, this month I got six items. We are told in the front of the booklet that we get one full size item this month.

Birch Box October 2016

Birch Box October 2016

Lord & Berry Maxi Matte Crayon Lipstick (Full Size)

This retails at RRP £12, this is the full size item we are told about in the front of the book and mine came in the colour Intimacy.

Batiste XXL Volume Spray 50ml (travel size)

It is described as “backcomb in a bottle”.

I wouldn’t have minded this product so much if I hadn’t received the exact same product from Birch box last month. They did later fix this problem with an offer of points or a replacement product for those of us that had received the same product for two months straight however it doesn’t take away the disappointment at finding the same item again.

Doux Me Pure Spring Mist 50ml (Travel size)

It is described as a soothing and hydrating, mineral rich spring water spray.

I actually really enjoyed this product, out of the whole box this was my fave. Although it would have been more suited for summer as it is a cooling type spray. However I did really like this and I have reached for this a few times lately.

Rituals Hammam Body Mud 70ml (Travel Size)

This is described as a mineral rich, purifying scrub with Rhassoul clay and Eucalyptus.

This was a nice item to get in the box, Rituals has a good reputation and their stuff is good quality. I didn’t mind getting this in the box although as said with the above item it may have been more suited to a summer box.

Number 4 Fluoro5 Elixer Restore & Repair Oil 14.8ml (Travel Size)

This is described as a nourishing hair elixir.

I personally don’t use hair oils, I already have enough problems with my hair becoming greasy too fast. This item is also very small and the directions in the booklet are hard to follow as it says smooth 1-2 pumps into damp hair however the bottle we got doesn’t have a pump so it would be easy to use too much or too little.

Birchbox Eyebrow Brush RRP £1.99 (Full Size)

This item is your typical plastic eyebrow brush, personally I never need one as it’s something most brush sets come with so I always have one to hand if I need it. I don’t feel this is good quality, it does feel very cheaply made.

Overall this box was a let down, I really loved the appearance but the products really did leave a lot to be desired.

I’ve seen a decline in Birch box recently and I really hope it doesn’t continue.

Thank you for reading,
